Intentions

Get the Facts Out resources are designed to be customizable and used by anyone working to share the facts about the teaching profession. We encourage anyone to use and distribute these materials, within the terms of the Creative Commons license described below.

Modifying materials

Our downloadable materials are editable Microsoft Office documents so that you can customize them to fit your efforts. We recommend that you add (1) information about your program and how to contact you; (2) your logo and any other branding you desire such as your colors; and (3) most importantly local salary and retirement data for teachers in your region.

What not to change

For best results, the wording used for taglines and Did you know statements as well as the order in which facts are presented in the presentations should not be changed. Surprisingly we found that often wording or photographs that our team and faculty supporters thought would work well, produced unexpected and inaccurate perceptions. For this reason we have carefully researched all messaging and resources via interviews, focus groups, and presentations with a wide variety of people across the U.S. On this website you will only find materials that have been found to be effective at improving perceptions of the teaching profession with STEM students, faculty, and teachers.   We also found that there are some differences in what works well for faculty and what works best with students.  This is why you’ll find resources designed for faculty as well as  student-facing materials. (You can read more on our Tested Messaging page.)
