Intentions

Get the Facts Out intends for the resources on this website to be used broadly to change the conversation around STEM teaching careers. We encourage anyone to use and distribute these materials for their intended purpose, within the terms of the Creative Commons license described below.

Modifying materials

Many of our downloadable materials are editable Microsoft Office documents. This is because many of you will be using the materials for a specific audience or a specific teacher-preparation program. The content that should be added or modified includes (1) information about your teacher-preparation program and how to contact you and (2) salary and cost-of-living data for teachers in your region. You may also use photographs of people in your teacher-preparation program.

What not to change

Much of the content in these materials and on the website itself has been carefully researched with interviews and focus groups with a wide variety of people and found to be effective at improving perceptions of the teaching profession with the audiences for which they are intended. In other words, factual language that did not test well with faculty is not used in the resources designed for faculty. Photographs that turned students off are not used in student-facing materials. And so forth. Many facts and photos that the researchers thought would work did not. (You can read more on our Tested Messaging page.)
